Leitz continental microscope

A late model Leitz continental microscope. It is signed, "E. Leitz Wetzler, 191479". The serial number would date it to circa 1920. It stands 11.5" tall when closed. Coarse focus is rack and pinion; fine focus by a micrometer knob on top of the limb. The microscope has a square stage with slide clips.  All rack work is in excellent working condition. The sub stage Abbe condenser has a variable iris diaphragm and has a swing-out filter holder. There is a separate condenser with three removable stops.  The plano-concave mirror is in excellent on both sides.   The optical system is comprised of three original Leitz lenses and three eyepieces. The lenses are a 3, 6, and 1/12 oil. The eyepieces are numbered, 1, 2, and 6x. The optics are up to the typical Leitz high standards. The finish on the microscope is lacquered brass with a painted black base. The lacquer coverage has some streaking and staining as evidenced in the photos. The black base is softened from the earlier continental horseshoe. The instrument is housed in its original case with matching serial number. The case is in very good condition with brass handle, lock and key. Inside are two slide out holders for lenses and eyepieces, along with a wooden slide out accessory case containing a blue sub-stage filter. The lens case is leather covered and has space for five objectives.  It is stamped "E Leitz, Wetzler" in gold on top.  This is a usable model of the later continental style.
