| M id-19th century microscope lamp - c1851
An exceptional paraffin microscope lamp with case. It is signed, "Wood late Abraham, Liverpool" on the base. This would refer to George Smart Wood who worked in Liverpool from 1847-1897. Wood took over from Abraham & Co. in 1851. This instrument probably dates from that time because the Wood name appearst to have been engraved after the fact. The post is 9 3.4 "
tall. The height of the lamp is adjustable by sliding it up the post. The lamp is in working order, and provides
substantial illumination comparable to -- and even exceeding the light from modern
electric bulb. The lamp is finished in lacquered brass. It has a ceramic shade. This lamp is fully functional, and ready to provide vintage
style illumination for an antique microscope. |
