Ross Continental brass microscope - circa 1895 A classic Continental style brass microscope signed "Ross, London, 8134" on the distinguishing squared-off horseshoe base. The instrument measures 12" tall in closed position. It has two original Ross 2/3" and 1/8" lenses on a double nose piece. Each lens comes with a matching Ross signed brass canister. The lenses and canisters are in excellent condition. Two eyepieces, marked 2 and 4 complete the optical system. The coarse and fine focus are typical Continental style with rack and pinion and micrometer knob with indicator scale. The sub-stage condenser consists of a swing out variable iris diaphragm. The mirror is plano-concave and in excellent condition. The microscope is finished in lacquered brass with 100% coverage that is in excellent condition with only minimal wear. The instrument is housed in its original hand dove tailed mahogany case with a leather carry handle. The case is in very fine usable condtion. The microscope displays exceedingly well with its classic Continental profile and particularly fine overall condition. Item 1172 |
