J. Schedler globe - circa 1869

An exceptional little 3" diameter globe by Schedler.  The globe stands 5" tall on a cast metal base that is painted brown.  Cartouche reads, " J. Schedler's terrestrial Globe, 3 inches Diameter, Prize Medal, Paris Exp., 1867, Patented November 24th 1868, B. Westermann & Co."  The globe has a pale blue ocean and brightly colored land masses.  Condition is excellent.  Joseph Schedler emigrated from Germany and, beginning in 1850,  produced globes both in Jersey City, NJ and New York City.  He won numerous prizes for his efforts, and was an innovator who was one of the first to add shipping lines and ocean currents to his globe designs.
