Early 19th century brass telescope by Dollond
An early 19th century brass telescope signed, "Dollond, London, Day or Night", on the brass tube. It is also engraved, "W.N.W Hewitt" on the brass. It measures 20 3/8" long when closed, and 22" when focused to infinity. The objective lens is 2" in diameter with draw tube focus. The eyepiece has a brass cover slide. The main body tube is covered in mahogany and is in very good condition. The draw tube is brass and shows a soldered repair and a number of indents as seen in the photos. Overall the telescope is a very fine usable example from a very important English maker.
