2 " brass reflecting telescope by Edward Nairne

Signed in large script on the tube, "Nairne, London", this 2 " Gregorian reflecting telescope dates to circa 1780. Total overall length is 17". It stands on a brass tripod base with folding cabriole legs, and measures 13 " to the top in horizontal position. The telescope attaches to the base with two brass wing nuts. Focus in controlled by a knob attached to a long focusing rod. The controls and optical performance are in very good operating condition. The telescope is finished in polished brass with only one small ding in the tube on the side opposite the focusing rod. This stately telescope from an important London manufacturer makes an impressive, functioning display.
